Gold Coast Kids Guide to Christmas 2020

Get the kids into the festive spirit and keep them occupied during the school holidays with this great round up of Christmas activities across the Gold Coast. The Gold Coast Kids Guide to Christmas 2020 even includes some tips on budget friendly (and FREE) Santa photos!

Christmas events

1-24 December- The Night Before Christmas Interactive Experience, Southport Sharks: Enjoy the Gold Coast’s most spectacular Christmas Wonderland with your family and friends this December! The Night Before Christmas Family Experience will take you through three specially designed Christmas themed spaces complete with audiovisual effects and entertainment. Get a glimpse into Santa’s magical workshop as you write your letter to Santa to take back to the North Pole, or see Rudolph’s own Winter Wonderland while you’re there too. The day wouldn’t be complete without a visit from Santa himself, of course, so be sure to stop by to take a photo with him and his reindeers while you’re at it.

1-24 December: Currumbin Sanctuary Christmas Spirit: There is so much to explore this Christmas at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary! They have brought out a number of events and experiences which will leave a lasting and positive impression and are in the spirit of Christmas. See their brand-new shows ‘Blinky Bill’s Christmas Wish’ & Aussie Scales and Tails, cool off at Wild Island Adventure Splash Zone, or, ride the train and discover Lost Valley.

4-23 December- MovieWorld White Christmas: Movie World White Christmas is back in 2020 to ramp up the Christmas cheer with a whopping great offering of sparkling Christmas displays, live entertainment, kids activities and lots more – an unmissable experience for kids and adults alike looking to liven up the excitement for this year’s Christmas countdown. From the spectacular annual White Christmas Parade to festive carolling, live family shows and the brand new Polar Express 4D Experience, there’s something to get everyone in the festive spirit at Movie World White Christmas!

5 December- Christmas Craft workshop, SEED Heritage Pacific Fair Shopping Centre: Let your little ones get into the festive spirit at Seed’s FREE Christmas craft workshop at Pacific Fair this Saturday 5 December! Kids can decorate and take home their own Christmas stocking.

5 December- Tugun Lights Up, Tugun: Tugun Lights Up returns this year for its eighth annual celebration! Dine under the stars at one of the fantastic local cafes or restaurants, check out the local window displays and special offers, or visit the Christmas market stalls. Plenty of children’s entertainment on offer throughout the program with Santa making a special appearance!

5 December- City of Gold Coast Mayor’s Virtual Christmas Carols: The ninth annual Mayor’s Christmas Carols presented by Mercedes-Benz Gold Coast is turning virtual for 2020! The FREE virtual family-friendly event will be simulcast on the City’s webpage, in the Facebook event page and aired on 102.9 Hot Tomato at 6pm on Saturday 5 December.

7 December- Currumbin Carols, Galleon Park Currumbin: A family-friendly event bringing the joy of Christmas to residents. Children’s activities will commence from 4.30pm including crafts, inflatable slide, plate spinning, and flower sticks. Stage entertainment will commence at 5.30pm and includes a traditional Christmas concert, dancing, children’s stage show and Santa appearance. The evening will conclude with a spectacular laser light show.

9-18 December- Christmas Activities at Oasis Broadbeach: Gather the kids and head to Bakers Delight at The Oasis to decorate your own cake pop for FREE these school holidays, or get your mini-artists together to decorate their own Christmas ornaments – parents are welcome to participate in this one too, there is a small fee associated with it.

10 December- North Burleigh Carols by the Sea, Ed Hardy Park North Burleigh: An afternoon and evening of free Christmas entertainment and fun at Ed Hardy Park. A mixture of ticketed and non-ticketed festive entertainment from 4pm to 8pm, with stage entertainment and Christmas Carols commencing from 6pm.

12-20 December- Christmas Lights Trail, Berrinba Wetlands: The Billabong Circuit trail at Berrinba Wetlands has been transformed into a dazzling lighting display with music, bringing the joy of Christmas to Logan City. There will also be food trucks, where snack food options are available for purchase and fun activities during the night. Kids can also participate in a free augmented reality snow slinging action game through the park. 

12 December- Christmas Carols at Harrigan’s Calypso Bay, Jacobs Well: Celebrate an early Christmas with Carols by the Bay at Harrigan’s Calypso Bay! From 5pm to 9pm there will be a fun family evening, with a special visit from Santa Claus, live Christmas Carols, food & drink specials and every child gets a lolly bag! Bookings Essential.

12 December- Nerang Celebrates Christmas – Carols and Market, Nerang: After a year of uncertainty, the Nerang Celebrates team are very excited to bring you ‘Nerang Celebrates Christmas 2020’ on Saturday 12th December from 3pm to 8.30pm at Bischof Pioneer Park, Nerang. Bring the kids, a picnic blanket, your chairs and join the local community for a night of COVID Safe family fun, food and festivities!

12 December- Carols by the Lake, Robina Town Centre: Celebrate Christmas with ‘Carols by the Lake 2020’ on Saturday 12 December from 4pm to 8pm at The Promenade, Robina Town Centre. Attendees will enjoy loads of free family fun including live music, kids activities, roving entertainment, Christmas carols, Santa, and so much more! Nearby restaurants and businesses at Robina Town Centre will also be serving up some festive food and special offers.

13 December- Elanora Christmas Carols, Elanora: Relax on the lawn under the stars and sing along to all your favourite Christmas carols with live band accompaniment. Kids will be kept entertained with fun activities, jumping castles, puppet shows and more! Even Santa said he’ll be coming along.

13 December- Coolangatta Christmas Carols, Queen Elizabeth Park, Coolangatta: Sing along to your favourite carols, enjoy spectacular festive performances, and settle in for a magical night under the stars. Santa will be making an appearance by plane with plenty of entertainment for everyone to enjoy. The Coolangatta Christmas Markets and food trucks will be open and the event includes a fantastic festive fireworks display.

19 December- Tamborine Mountain Rural Fire Brigade Christmas Show & Fireworks, Mount Tamborine: Entry by gold coin donation, the event will include twilight markets, carols by candle light, entertainment and music with a special visit from Santa. Be sure to bring a blanket or chair to sit and watch the fireworks display!

20 December- Ormeau Pimpama Santa Run: Each year on the last Sunday before Christmas, Santa and his Elves travel around Ormeau in a Fire Truck driven by the Ormeau Rural Fire Brigade, delivering lollies to the local children. Check out the map on their Facebook page to see where Santa will stop!

22-24 December- Mrs Claus’s Cookie Kitchen, Tweed Mall: Join Mrs Claus as she reads a traditional Christmas story, followed by fun in the Mrs Claus’s Cookie Kitchen, where kids can decorate their own Christmas Gingerbread Man. Plus, meet and greet Mrs Claus at the Santa Set and if you like grab a socially distanced selfie with Mrs Claus too!


Christmas movies under the stars

What better way to spend an evening than outdoors watching a movie under the stars! City of Gold Coast proudly presents this special edition of Movies under the Stars – Summer Series. Join us as we get into the Christmas spirit on the sands of Surfers Paradise beach from 18 – 24 December, where we’ll be showing a different Christmas movie each night! Due to ongoing COVID restrictions this event is ticketed, so click the link below to check out the movie schedule and register for your FREE ticket. Gather your picnic blanket, family and friends and get ready to dive into the Christmas spirit with the sand between your toes on Surfers Paradise Beach. Making memories

Free Santa photos: Visit Harbour Town to see Surfing Santa cruising the malls in his surf buggy at 11am-3pm every day from December 1st – 24th. Santa stops for 30 minutes daily for free selfies!

Budget friendly Santa photos: Get your budget friendly $7 Santa photos at Tweed Mall Shopping Centre. Visit Santa for a $7 Santa photo (1x 6×8 inch framed photo per family per day). Santa Sunday’s are also back, first 40 customers per Sunday will receive 1x 6×8 inch framed photo for free. The Pines at Elanora is also offering $12 Santa photos!

Elfie with Santa: This Christmas, Australia Fair is making you the star! Spread the joy virtually with a FREE custom mini movie starring you and up to two buddies. Make a fun face into the iPad and watch as you get up to mischief at North Pole with Santa! Don’t forget to share your video with family and friends, especially those we can’t be with this Christmas.

Pet photos with Santa: Santa Loves all creatures great and small, so grab your pets, pop on their leashes and grab your pet photo with Santa! Available at The Pines Elanora, Stockland Burleigh Heads, Westfield Coomera and Pacific Fair. Santa Paws isn’t just for dogs, you can bring along any Furr-iend!
