World-first Pod Games here for GC families!

“Active kids” and “technology” aren’t terms that we tend to hear together, are they? Well, a world-first event is coming to the Gold Coast these school holidays, which is likely to change that!

Launching at the Gold Coast Sport and Leisure Centre on 18 December, The Pod Games will use the latest technology to help get our kids moving. Consisting of ten activities that will test speed, agility and focus, while having fun at the same time, families can compete together and alongside celebrity sports stars! No matter your age or ability, there will be something for everyone to try with a free demo area for those not competing.

BlazePods are a reflex training system that has taken the sporting world by storm and are being used by some of the biggest names and clubs in sport. Think Feel Do is a Gold Coast company dedicated to building resilience through physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing programs for kids, and is partnering with the City of Gold Coast Active & Healthy Program to create this FREE event. Whether you want to compete, have fun, or just hang out – there is something for everyone at the 2022 Pod Games!

Registration for The Pod Games closes on Friday 9 December, and the Games will be held on Sunday 18 December. If you miss out on registering, or want to have a look without competing, come along to the free demo area with heaps of family fun for all ages. You can try out the BlazePods, watch local sports stars have a go and cheer on the competitors!

No prior experience is necessary for the games, and all fitness levels are encouraged to join – even beginners and younger children! Compete in either the “Individual Champions” event, with categories including Year 3-5 (8-11yrs), Year 5-7 (11-13yrs), Year 7-9 (13-15yrs), Year 10 (16+yrs) and Open; or the “Family” event, where kids and adults compete together for the Gold Coast’s most active and healthy family.

Register at www.thepodgames.com and be sure to follow on Facebook and Instagram for sneak peeks of the ten activities in the Games.

As part of the Active & Healthy Gold Coast school holiday program, there are also four Exergaming BlazePod sessions happening across the Gold Coast. Held at Mudgeeraba, Broadbeach, Pimpama and Labrador, kids aged 8 years and up will be playing games to test their speed, mind and coordination. This is a new way of combining technology and movement to help stimulate and help decrease stress levels, as it provides a way to have fun and relieve stress. Bookings are required, find out more here: https://www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/Things-to-do/Active-Healthy-program/Active-Healthy-holiday-programs.
