A few months ago, I shared about the planned upgrades to Washington Waters playground at Broadwater Parklands (the section of playground closest to the Bouncy Pillow). There was some concern from the community regarding the plans and you let it be known! About a month ago, Cr Brooke Patterson reached out to me to see if I would meet with her and the Project Officers to look over the plans and provide any feedback I may have.

Today that meeting was able to happen and I have to say, the plans are looking good!!! There is a huge variety of equipment going in, a lot catering to primary schoolers too. I voiced concerns about ensuring there was toddler equipment that is accessible, and I loved the ideas they had! I've suggested a tiny tweak to the swings configuration and they're going to see what they can do.

Of course with upgrades comes challenges with compliance and certification. Many of the loved items at this playground no longer meet current standards, but I was very impressed to see how hard they are working to push through these issues to deliver for the community. While they can't yet promise anything, know that there are high hopes a new compliant version of the pedal bikes will be able to be installed at the playground. But we are also getting some "1st on the Gold Coast" play pieces that are fun for everyone - and I mean EVERYONE - that I know will be really well received.

For those with nostalgic memories of this park, know that it is not yet goodbye for the lizards. The Project Officers and Cr Patterson know how loved these are and are working to see where they might be able to find a new home nearby. This is a large project that won't commence construction until early next year, but the outcome is going to be worth the wait!

@bamboodownunder at Wongawallan is a garden centre with a difference. The perfect weekend outing, here you can explore a species garden, meditation garden, labyrinth, sensory garden and bamboo tunnel, and get bamboozled in the bamboo maze!

Start in the Species Garden, where the kids can take on the Scavenger Hunt to discover the hidden pandas, all the while having a look at some incredible ornamental species of bamboo. The Species Garden then leads on to the Bamboo Maze, where you have to figure out the right path to the other side. Those who succeed will find themselves passing the Sensory Garden and on to the Rainforest Walk, a very peaceful stroll through a forest of enormous bamboo varieties. Dotted throughout are information signs about bamboo, little panda ornaments and other garden statues. You’ll soon come across the labyrinth and the Bamboo Tunnel, keep an eye out for dinosaurs! Don’t miss the enchanted hollow at the end of the Tunnel.

Of course, there is also the main garden centre, with plenty of varieties of bamboo and other plants to browse and purchase if you are looking for a new addition to the garden. It’s free to visit the garden centre and display gardens, so even if you’re not purchasing, it’s great for some garden inspiration.

@bellaswonderlandgc is celebrating their 1st birthday this month, can you believe it! This incredible play centre set a new standard when it opened the doors last year, offering something new that we had never seen before on the Gold Coast. It still is as popular as ever - have you visited yet?

Do you have a budding chef? Check out the organic market and kitchens. What about a little princess? Check out the dress up boutique, with change rooms and lounges. A lego fan? Yep, there’s a room for that too. Ride the train or carousel, pop by the library, or have some time out from the sensory overload in the chill out room with plenty of toys for even the littlest of kids. Visit the giant sand pit (filled with millions of tiny wooden blocks with rolled edges – the best sand pit I’ve ever seen!) with trucks, buckets and spades. Explore the smaller play zone best suited for the younger ones, with climbing, obstacles and a ball pit with air tunnels. Finally, discover the large play zone, with a huge orange and white checked slide and so many fun obstacles, games and challenges throughout.

Tweed Recreation Ground Playground at Tweed Heads

Tweed Recreation Ground Playground at Tweed Heads is a beautiful, nature inspired accessible play space, located right on the Qld/NSW border! With a fabulous play structure and tunnel slide, nature play teepee, swings, nature walk and basketball courts, there is plenty to occupy everyone here.

We loved the musical elements, all the climbing features, and the hidden nature play elements. This is a space children can move easily through, exploring and discovering new things all the time. Dig in the sand and you might find a dinosaur, skip across the logs and see what animals are hiding, play on the swings or get active with the rock climbing wall and basket ball court.

There are picnic facilities here, as well as a public toilet. Parking is easily accessible and the area is partially fenced from the road. There is also a large sporting field, so bring a ball to play! It's located on the corner of Recreation Street and Florence Street, Tweed Heads. A few months ago, we took off on a month long trip to the US! We drove from Texas, through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Georgia to finish in South Carolina. It was an incredible trip and I promised an overview of our itinerary for you!
