If you’re looking for a bushwalk that feels special without being too challenging for little legs, Natural Bridge at Springbrook National Park is one of the Gold Coast hinterland’s best family-friendly spots. Located in the western section of Springbrook National Park, Natural Bridge sits within the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area—a place where ancient landscapes, towering trees and flowing water come together in a way that captures kids’ imaginations and gives adults a chance to slow down and soak it all in.
What makes Natural Bridge so special?
The Natural Bridge itself is a striking rock arch, formed over time by the force of a waterfall carving its way through a basalt cave. Standing beneath it, watching the water tumble through the opening and echo around the cave walls, feels awe-inspiring and grounding all at once.
Surrounding the bridge is lush Gondwana rainforest, where hoop pines rise above the forest floor. These trees are living remnants from the Jurassic Age, dating back around 180 million years, making this walk a great opportunity to spark curiosity and conversations with kids about ancient landscapes and how the Earth has changed over time.
The walk: easy, accessible and kid-friendly
The Natural Bridge Circuit is a one-kilometre sealed loop that begins at the car park just off Nerang–Murwillumbah Road. The walk is clearly signposted and is recommended to be completed in a clockwise direction. It’s rated a Class 2, meaning it’s considered an easy walk and suitable for most fitness levels. While the path is well-maintained, there is a long section of steps, so it’s worth being prepared if you’re visiting with younger children. Allow about 45 minutes to an hour to complete the loop.
Facilities and tips for families
- Public toilets are available at the car park
- The water is not suitable for drinking, so bring your own
- The rainforest provides shade and it can feel quite cool, even in the Summer
Natural Bridge is one of those walks that feels achievable yet memorable. It’s short enough to hold kids’ attention, interesting enough to keep adults engaged, and offers a real sense of connection to nature without needing a full day or advanced hiking skills.
If you’re visiting Springbrook with children, this circuit is a beautiful introduction to rainforest walking and a reminder that some of the most impressive natural features are also the most accessible.
