The playground at Pat Fagan Park at Rainbow Bay ha

The playground at Pat Fagan Park at Rainbow Bay has now opened! Replacing the swings that have been there for many years, this vibrant new playground is inspired by our surf lifesavers and designed to let the kids act out their surf lifesaving dreams! With a three storey Surf Rescue Tower, dune buggy and a surf shop, there is plenty here to play with. While the mega slide might be a bit much for the little ones, there is also a small slide, swings, and the tower is easily accessible with a staircase as well as rock climbing wall and net tunnel. The old swings haven't been completely lost - a new set of swings with basket and parent & child swing are also great additions.

A couple of things to be mindful of: the playground has astroturf under foot. Today on a sunny (almost) winter's day, it was tolerable to walk on barefoot. I will be curious to see how this goes in the peak of summer, and whether it becomes too hot - so be aware! Also, this park is located right on Marine Parade (at the intersection with Ward Street). It does feel a bit too close for comfort, and the only divider is a sandstone block retaining wall (I've captured a bit of this in my reel). I'd really like to see a fence along the roadside of the playground, just to ensure the safety of everyone. Hopefully this might be a future addition if feedback from the community is the same.

The always popular question, yes, there are toilets! About a 100m walk you'll find a full toilet block. Also, pack the swimmers and hit up the beach while you're there. Street parking is available, but limited, especially on weekends.

Did you know you can dine inside an igloo, right here on the Gold Coast? This winter, head to the @coomeralodgehotel for an evening under fairy lights in your own special winter wonderland.

While Brisbane might have us tipped with their fancy Customs House Riverside igloo dining, this option is much closer to home, and family friendly – with no booking fees or minimum spends required!

Set along one side of the Coomera Lodge outdoor dining area, there are 6 igloos available for two sittings each night. Pick the kid-friendly 5pm slot and take in the sunset over the Coomera River, before night falls and the fairy lights start to twinkle.

Coomera Lodge also has a huge outdoor dining space with live music stage, and an open air playground that is hugely popular on weekends.

Each igloo caters for 6 people and is comfortably decked out to snuggle in as the temperature drops. Order from the Bistro menu, or pick from the winter wonderland chefs specials each night. Kids meals are just $10.

This is such a fun dining experience and my kids loved the novelty of having our own special igloo to hide away in.

One tip – bring some mozzie repellent, like most Gold Coast spots right now as soon as the sun sets they’re out in force!

Anyone else craving some cool, Autumn vibes? Cosy meals, cinnamon scents, warm drinks and soft blankets epitomise a cool change. With one week left of the season, and a cool change seriously lacking, I'm taking charge and bringing Autumn into my home thanks to @aldiaustralia.

While I love to bake, I don't have the patience for recipes and complex measurements, so packet mixes are my go-to. These days you can get some incredible flavours and cafe worthy baked goods from the simple packet mix! Aldi's Cinnamon Crumble Muffin Mix is a favourite, and reminds me of muffins my mum used to bake when we were kids. Fresh out of the oven, these muffins will fill your house with the scent of Autumn.

@joesdeliofficial brings old-fashioned vibes with a modern-day twist! Influenced by Italian and American street foods, dine in at their @pacificfair location for New York Style booth seating, hand painted sign writing, and 90s hip hop music.

The menu is simple but effective, with 9 sandwiches and 5 hot dogs to choose from, all served on toasted sesame milk rolls. There is also a Joe’s Lil Toasties kids menu, with 4 kid-sized sandwiches to choose from. Don’t miss some of the stand-out sides like mac and cheese croquettes and onion rings!

If you’ve still got room, finish it off with a sweet treat – the Hollywood two-tone cheesecake with liquid Nutella and brulee marshmallow was DIVINE!

A play centre at a shopping centre - now that's an

A play centre at a shopping centre - now that's an idea! @emf_pacificfair_jnr is where playtime meets adventure! Kids can jump, slide and explore their way through this fun indoor playground. Some of the things you'll find here include a trampoline, a large climbing playground, the huge ball pit, a jnr ninja course, mega slide, small car and bike track, a special under 2yrs toddler zone, and the jumping castle. While EMF Jnr at @pacificfair has never been the biggest of play centres, it does pack a fair bit in and the kids will have a blast. Keep this one in mind whenever you have to get some shopping done with the kids - get the errands done first and then reward them with a play!

When we visited last week, we noticed that it was starting to look a little tired - a few rips in the vinyl, a broken table and they could definitely do with a few extra cars for the car track. At $10 per child to visit (I believe it is $15 on weekends), I still think it represents a fun and good-value outing, and hopefully EMF Pacific Fair will be making a few small repairs that are only natural to be needed after a few years of operation!

This endless rain makes getting out on the weekend

This endless rain makes getting out on the weekends a bit hard - even if it stops raining, the ground is so wet that many parks are mud pits!! This review is one from the archives, but a visit to @tamborinerainforestskywalk is a great option for those breaks in the rain to get out for a walk, and head to the sky!

The Tamborine Mountain Rainforest Skywalk offers visitors a unique and thrilling way to explore the beautiful rainforest canopies. The Skywalk is set in a magical 30 acres of privately owned rainforest, beside the crystal clear rock-pools of Cedar Creek on Mt Tamborine.

The Skywalk is an amazing way to take in a different view of Tamborine Mountain than usual, and is totally family friendly! You are free to take the walk at your own pace, stopping wherever takes your interest, and the walk is suitable for larger-wheeled strollers (there are a few parts that have a couple of steps you will need to navigate over).

When you first arrive at the Skywalk, you’ll enter the Eco Gallery, which showcases local rainforest animals, birds and reptiles. There are dioramas of Australian and exotic insects, and butterfly collections. There are also information panels of local and indigenous Australian history. The Eco Gallery also includes a massive 11ft fish tank which depicts a natural rainforest pool, stocked with a range of native endemic fish.

There is also the Birdwing Cafe, where you can enjoy light refreshments before or after your walk.

The walk takes about 45 minutes at a leisurely pace, including time spent at the points of interest along the way. The entire walk totals 1.5 kms and is a combination of forest floor trails, 300 metres of high-tech steel bridges through the highest points of the upper canopy, and a 40 metre cantilever bridge that soars a breathtaking 30 metres above the creek and rainforest below.

Have you got a kid who loves to get messy? Come visit @the.messy.place! A safe space for kids to explore, get messy, be creative and have some fun!

With great themed messy play activities each week, there is bound to be a theme your kids will love. We visited during the very popular Dinosaur week and got busy playing with sensory trays and cleaning dirty dinosaurs.

There are also a few role play areas, a great climbing and slide structure, a huge painting wall, the glow room and a very popular rice table! The best part about visiting The Messy Place? Kids can have all the fun, while you wave bye and leave the mess behind for someone else to clean up! What a win for parents!
