Big City Lights, Southport

BIG CITY LIGHTS* is a new free festival celebrating urban and digital design, digital culture, music, and light taking place in the heart of Southport CBD. Following an extremely successful pilot program in 2022, BIG CITY LIGHTS * is back in 2024 over three weekends – Friday to Sunday, from 5:00pm to 10pm – with over 30 works across 30 locations.

Building facades and laneways in the city’s CBD will be transformed into hypnotic and technicolour displays by leading local and national artists working in installation, video projection, and digital design, complimented with live performances.

The cutting-edge self-guided program will feature immersive audio-visual experiences, large-scale digital works, 3D-mapping, and unexpected projection sites that will transform the Gold Coast’s everyday urban spaces into bright, colourful outdoor galleries. BIG CITY LIGHTS* will also feature live music and performances, adding to the appeal of the free, family-friendly festival.

BIG CITY LIGHTS* is presented by Experience Gold Coast (EGC). Operative from September 2023, Experience Gold Coast promotes, advocates, and collaborates with industry, government, and the community to strengthen the Gold Coast’s position as Australia’s premier tourism destination, the home of major events, a preferred place to study and a city that values and celebrates arts and cultural experiences.
