Finding cafes with a large, gated play area seems to be difficult on the Gold Coast, so when we found Cadence Cafe at Nerang, I was surprised to find a hidden gem with delicious food, the perfect play area, and hardly any crowds (other than the lycra clad type!).

Let me explain the lycra… Cadence Cafe is best known among locals as a spot for cyclists – with one of the Gold Coast’s biggest bike shops next door and the velodrome across the road, don’t be surprised to find a car park full of bikes if you visit! While it does cater wonderfully for the cycling crowd, I am surprised this place isn’t on the very top of all mother’s groups cafe lists and packed with toddlers!

Set across three levels, all are easily connected by a central path and steps. At the top you have the cafe itself, with some tables inside and a big glass window looking through to the bike shop. Outside the cafe is a large astroturfed space with a number of cafe tables under umbrellas and the shade of a large gum tree. Down about 4 steps is the lower area that connects to the playground, set up with bar tables and stools so you can see the playground while you eat. All levels can be accessed with a pram, and dogs are welcome in the outdoor areas.

While Cadence Cafe is located on busy Nerang Connection Rd, it’s actually quite a picturesque spot and you really don’t notice the traffic. It’s set a fair bit back from the road, has its own off-street parking and is under a huge shady fig tree. All of this makes it super accessible for parents with little ones who know the hardest part of going to a cafe is parking and getting everyone safely inside!

Once you find a spot (grab a table wherever you please and order at the counter), the kids will be itching to get into the gated play space. A large boat with a steering wheel holds central position, while there was also a little car to drive around and a trike. There’s plenty of space for little ones to kick a ball or drive a toy car around, so bringing a few favourite toys with you could definitely extend the time you get out of this play area! All of this is covered with a large shade sail and is also protected by the gum tree.

Serving breakfast and lunch, the menu is fantastic and also caters for children. The kids milkshakes were a hit with my little guy! This is not just a coffee shop, this is a cafe with a busy kitchen dishing up delicious meals! Definitely be sure to check out Cadence Cafe for your next play date or family adventure!
