Discovery Park, Helensvale

Discovery Park at Helensvale was upgraded in early 2024, providing a new and safer playground experience. The playground was shifted away from busy Discovery Drive, further into the parklands behind the Tennis Club and is fully fenced. It caters for a wide range of ages, with varying levels of climbing difficulty. There are two play towers with a bridge, a small ninja climbing structure, swing set and and a spinner. My kids loved this playground, with plenty of opportunities to engage in puzzles and other games under the equipment as well .

Probably my only downside to this park is that due to its relocation, it is a bit of a walk to get to, and the most accessible route is not the quickest or most obvious. Park in the carpark by the Tennis Club, and then head towards the path entrance to the right of the Tennis Club that runs alongside Helensvale State School. Follow this path to your left and you will loop around beside the school and behind the Tennis Club, finally reaching the playground. If you try to walk on the other side of the Tennis Club, you will find that running the length of the park between the Tennis Club and the Playground is a gully that is usually very wet and the only way to cross it is to get your feet wet!

Toilets are available in Discovery Park, but again they are not very close to the playground. You’ll need to head back towards the skate park and the toilets are located near the road right beside the Discovery Drive entrance. Shade on this playground is classed as ‘natural shade’ and the plan was for it to be a shady playground under the trees. Unfortunately, the January storms decimated the trees in this area and while they are starting to regrow their leaves, it might take a while for it to be properly shady again. I’d suggest morning or afternoon visits to keep out of the midday sun.
