Little Kickers Gold Coast

For many families, the first taste of team sports is through soccer! It’s generally seen as a safe and fun option for little ones to get started in the world of sport, and it’s never been more popular. Little Kickers Gold Coast have taken that introduction to sports one step further and deliver an amazing program for young ones getting into soccer.

Little Kickers Gold Coast is a soccer skills program, that also combines with important early learning concepts such as colour and number recognition, sharing, following instructions and using imagination. They teach soccer year-round in a fun, pressure-free environment that gives children a positive introduction to sport as a whole, not just soccer!

There are four different classes available at a number of locations across the Gold Coast, each tailored to a different age group.

  • Little Kicks (18mths – 2.5yrs)
  • Junior Kickers (2.5yrs – 3.5yrs)
  • Mighty Kickers (3.5yrs – 5yrs)
  • Mega Kickers (5yrs – 8yrs)

We all know preschoolers and primary schoolers are confident and have boundless energy, and this is well catered for in the lesson plans! Classes include games that are fast-paced and increasingly football focused, with fun still at the heart, meaning that even new starters can easily pick them up. There is also an introduction to team play, with the concept of soccer matches gradually introduced.

Each class starts out with some fun and simple warm up drills – think fun and games such as ‘Freeze’ – before quickly moving on to the first lot of skills based games. The coaches have no trouble keeping the kids focused through engaging games, and the sounds of giggles and laughter is common! Skills taught include dribbling, stopping, throwing and kicking, before class is wrapped up with some striking and defending games and even a mini match.

From our experience with Little Kickers, I appreciate that children aren’t thrust into the depths of hard-core soccer. This is about gross motor skill building, with a gradual introduction to the game of soccer. For those who come from non-sporting backgrounds, it is a great opportunity for your child to be introduced to the concept of team sports. The focus on delivering ball skills training through fun and play means that Little Kickers is suitable for anyone looking for an intro to sport – even if soccer doesn’t end up being the sport for you. The kids have fun and get to build a great relationship with the coaches and their team mates – two of the most important things for our little ones I think!
