Area 51 is known for their epic play centres, which until now have only been available to visit in Brisbane (Underwood, Mt Gravatt and Redcliffe). But the Gold Coast is now home to the 4th Area 51 venue at Westfield Helensvale, and Gold Coasters are in for a treat!
The design is very similar to the Mt Gravatt venue, in terms of size and features. Underwood is the largest of the centres and has many additional features that are not available in any of the other locations. Set across two levels, on the upper level you will find the cafe and the Astro Explorers area (exclusively for children 0-4yrs), a wall obstacle course, and an entrance to the bigger playground. Down stairs you have the majority of the bigger playground with multiple access points, and the light up dance floor. While it is two-levels, it is an open mezzanine space so it almost feels like one level. There is also a small upper level room which is home to a number of arcade games (additional cost).
This venue is designed for children aged up to 12yrs, and the older kids will have as much fun as the younger ones. Tucked at the back of the bigger playground you’ll find ninja courses with monkey bars, swinging rings, flying fox, obstacles and more. There are also mini-basketball and soccer challenges. The tube slide is very popular, as are the multiple other slides available.
Younger children are well catered for in the Astro Explorers special fenced off area, with a huge ball pit, multiple slides, air tubes and interactive games.
Area 51 will definitely shake up the play centre game on the Gold Coast, with many of the existing centres reaching the point where renovations and upgrades will be necessary. Having a brand new facility like this is amazing for locals and hopefully will push the others to renovate and up their game too!
