Emerald Lakes Parklands, Carrara

Emerald Lakes Parklands has long been a lovely spot for a morning walk, picnic or bike ride, but the fully fenced all-abilities playground is what really makes this a great family destination.

Designed to be accessible for children of all abilities, the playground is built around a central ramp structure. The gentle slopes mean the play space is quite expansive, with plenty to discover along the way. There are climbing sections, interactive play panels, smaller climbing webs and different spots to sit and take a break.

The main play structure leads to a short bridge and central tower, where kids can enjoy the larger slide. There are also two additional slides, along with swings, a spinner and a see-saw.

I particularly love the thoughtful inclusive elements throughout the playground. Chat boards around the perimeter encourage children to communicate and interact with each other, making them a lovely addition to a playground designed with inclusion in mind.

The entire playground is fully fenced with a single entry and exit point, which is a big bonus for parents of younger children. It’s also covered by shade sails, with additional shade from trees around the parklands.

Beyond the playground, there’s plenty of open space to explore, so bring the bikes or scooters and make a morning of it. The parklands are built on flood plains, so the surrounding areas can become quite wet after heavy rain, although the playground itself is raised.

Another bonus is the location. The playground is within easy walking distance of the French Quarter, where you can grab a coffee or something to eat before or after your visit.

With its combination of accessible play equipment, fencing, shade and beautiful surrounding parklands, Emerald Lakes is well worth adding to your list of Gold Coast playgrounds to visit.
