    Celadon Park, The Surrounds Helensvale

    January 11, 2025

Celadon Park has to be by far one of my favourite 0-5 year old playgrounds across the Coast, due to the endless opportunities for imaginative play! The highlight of this park is definitely the bike track, incorporating traffic signs, a petrol station, fire station and small pump track. Don't forget the bikes or scooters on this visit!

Another successful year of Book Week celebrations! Another successful year of Book Week celebrations! The rain dampened our parade a little bit, but the school had an excellent back up plan and the show went on!

We started planning Hiccup's costume about a month ago, when I searched for something ready made and only came up with options that were big $$$. After some inspiration from @makeitandloveit, a trip to @spotlightstores for some vinyl, and a bit of work with the sewing machine, velcro and fabric glue - I think we did ok!

Also super proud of my boy's dragon drawing! He did this all himself and it's exceptional. Will now hang on his bedroom wall 🐲

My littlest joined his first parade too, he's very shy, but did so well in his favourite dragon costume 💙

Tucked alongside one of the main streets of Helens Tucked alongside one of the main streets of Helensvale, many drive straight past Lions Park at Helensvale without realising what this gem has to offer! Families with kids ranging in ages will love this spot, as there is enough equipment to occupy the youngest through to the eldest of children. Got a ninja warrior on hand? This will also be the park for you, with it’s parkour inspired equipment keeping even the most skilled climber occupied for hours!

The main feature of this playground is the giant pirate ship inspired fort, with look-outs, a net bridge and a mega slide! Little ones will not be able to tackle this equipment, as the only way up is to climb the nets! To the side of this you’ll find the parkour cube, with rope monkey bars, rock climbing wall and swinging obstacles to tackle ninja warrior style.

For the little ones, there is a bunch of equipment perfectly suited to toddlers or early primary students. Choose between the mini fort and slide, bumble bee rocker, see-saw, wobble boards, swing set and rope spinner. All of this set out underneath big shady trees, providing shade and a nice breeze.

In terms of facilities, this park ticks all the boxes. You’ll find picnic shelters, a toilet block, water fountain and BBQ all located alongside the playground.

Well these little stick on superpowers are now available in @chemistwarehouseaus and even easier to get your hands on! We've been fans of the BuzzPatch for many years now, but the @natpat range is HUGE! Mosquito repellent, itch relief, uv sensors, calming and focus patches, as well as seasonal, bedtime and breathe easy patches, they're all here on @chemistwarehouseaus shelves. Winter is always a time for congestion and sniffles, so having the Breathe Easy patches in my first aid kit is essential.

Formulated with a 100% natural blend of eucalyptus, essential oils and menthol, . I pop it on at night time to help the kids wake up clear and congestion free. Without the need to put anything directly on their skin, they're Safe for babies, kids and adults. Store them in the chemist warehouse exclusive container, and breeze through the winter sniffles.

I’ve found the happiest of happy hours! @vapiano I’ve found the happiest of happy hours! @vapianoaustralia not only knocks it out of the park with their pasta and pizza, but their happy hour is family-friendly and great value!

On DAILY (yes, that’s right, every single day) from 4pm – 6pm, there is a special Happy Hour menu with snacks from just $5, $10 cocktails, and $6 beer, wine and spirits. We love to head there about 5pm for dinner with the kids, which gives us an hour of their happy hour prices.

We get started with a trio of dips, some cheesy garlic bread and a few cocktails, then order a pizza and pasta off the main menu to share – more than enough for us to eat and great value for a family dinner out! This is not a sponsored post, I just honestly eat here at least once a month (ok, maybe twice 😆)!

What are some of your top family-friendly tips for dining out at restaurants? I’ve linked my kids eat free guide in stories for you too!
@theekka kicked off today, and gloomy skies didn't @theekka kicked off today, and gloomy skies didn't scare us off! I've always been a huge fan of the Ekka and love now being able to share the Ekka traditions with my kids. The Animal Nursery, Sideshow Alley, agricultural pavilions, the cattle, the baking, everything has so much nostalgia! The kids are a bit young to make it to the evening show, but one year soon we'll attempt that. For now, a day at the Ekka suits us just fine!

Are you off to the Ekka this year? Or will you wait for @the_gc_show? Maybe both!?

Buckler Park has a fantastic playground with tunnel slides, climbing opportunities and a trampoline. There's also a smaller playground, plus swings, a flying fox and a sand play zone!

Hosting an exchange student has been something tha Hosting an exchange student has been something that was on our radar for the past year, after my eldest son was introduced to the exchange program at his school.

For the past 24 years, our school has hosted 40-odd students from its Japanese sister school for a homestay exchange – what has got to be one of the longest homestay exchange programs running on the Gold Coast! (fun fact: I attended the same school as my children, and my family hosted a student in the first year of the exchange!)

This year, when the call came for families to host, we put our hands up and got involved in a very rewarding experience as part of this cultural exchange.

I thought I’d share some of our experiences and tips on what to do with your student, for anyone who might be considering hosting a student of their own sometime. You can check out my blog post now in stories or at the link in my bio. Happy to answer any questions!
@botanicalbazaar is the Gold Coast’s Garden & Su @botanicalbazaar is the Gold Coast’s Garden & Sustainability Festival, held on the first weekend in August every year. It's one of my family's favourite festivals because it is so different to what we normally experience. This festival is all about healthy and sustainable living and supporting small local businesses and entertainers.

Explore varied plant nurseries and landscape designers, shop for garden materials and tools, organic beauty products and botanical homewares. From composting to keeping chickens, creating habitat gardens to beekeeping, bushfood to food preservation and survival skills. Learn how to live off the grid and many other sustainable living concepts. Don't miss the Kids Hub, which offers family entertainment with a bunch of nature-inspired arts and crafts.
