Tallowwood Park, Upper Coomera

Tallowwood Park is one of those parks that has a little bit of everything. There’s a large open green space dotted with shady trees, a beautiful lake, a fun bike track and a fenced playground, making it an easy option for a family morning out.

Bring the bikes and scooters and start with a walk around the lake. Keep an eye out for the ducks and turtles along the way. You can do the full loop, or simply follow the path along the lake if little legs aren’t up for the whole walk.

Then make your way over to the playground area, where you’ll find picnic tables, BBQs, toilets, the bike track and the playground all close together. It’s a great spot to set up for the morning and let the kids move between activities.

The bike track is small but lots of fun, with twists, turns and little hills for kids to zoom around. It’s particularly good for younger riders who are still building their confidence on bikes and scooters.

Once they’ve had enough of riding, there’s the fenced playground to explore. The fencing is a definite bonus for younger children, although one section is a rock wall that could potentially be climbed by bigger kids or adventurous little escape artists, so keep an eye on them!

There’s plenty of shade around the park, along with loads of open grass for running around, kicking a ball or spreading out a picnic rug. It’s also a great option for a kids’ birthday party, with plenty of room for families to spread out rather than everyone having to squeeze around one picnic table.

Tallowwood Park can be busier on Saturday mornings when Coomera Parkrun takes place, so a weekday visit is likely to be a quieter option.

And if you need a coffee or something extra for your picnic, there’s a small shopping complex right next door, making it particularly convenient for a relaxed morning with the kids.
