The Tamborine Mountain Glow Worm caves are a great opportunity for the family to get up close and personal with thousands of tiny little glow worms! Usually only seen at night, their purpose built sanctuary on Tamborine Mountain means you can support glow worm conservation AND see them during day light hours.
The only place in Queensland that you can see glow worms during the day, tours run all day so you can book a spot in advance or try for a walk-in opportunity. Tours last 30 minutes and you are 100% guaranteed to see thousands of glow worms!
The tours begin with a short walk on a boardwalk through the rehabilitated rainforest to the Glow Worm cave. Once inside, you will watch a short audio/visual display to acclimatise your eyes to the dark. This will ensure you see as many glow worms as possible while inside Glow Worm Alley. You then get led into the cave! Here you can slowly walk through the alley, stopping to look at the glow worms. Your guide will chat to you about the conservation program they are running, and help to make sure you don’t miss a thing!
Prams are not permitted inside the cave, so you’ll need to carry babies during the tour and you are able to leave your pram in the gift shop. To avoid disturbing the glow worms, visitors cannot make excess noise inside the cave, so if your child may have trouble keeping their voice down, please take this into account and be prepared to leave the tour early if necessary. They do ask parents with children to head into the cave first so that you are closest to the exit in case you need to head out of the cave.
The Glow Worm caves are on the grounds of Cedar Creek Estate Wines, so you can combine your Glow Worm Cave visit with lunch, or drop in to the cellar door for a tasting. While there, you can also visit Frog Hollow (entry free), and learn more about the wildlife found in the rainforest around the Estate.
