If you ever brave a trip to IKEA with the kids in tow, here’s a little tip to save for next time.
Just 750 metres down the road, Mabel Park is an absolute winner for burning off that post–flat pack energy. The playground is huge and genuinely caters for all ages, making it an easy add-on to your IKEA run.
The standout for us was the bike track. It’s not just a loop of concrete — there are obstacles, gentle rises, and learn-to-ride features that give kids a chance to practise their skills and build confidence. If you’ve got scooters or bikes in the car, it’s well worth pulling them out.
On warmer days, the water play area is a big hit. There are hand pumps and sprayers where the kids can control the flow themselves, which somehow makes it even more exciting. It’s perfect for a cool down after climbing.
The main playground structure is impressive, with fantastic tunnel slides and plenty of enclosed climbing spaces that feel adventurous but still safe. My kids loved working their way through the different levels and popping up at the little windows to check out the view. For kids who aren’t as keen on heights, there’s also a smaller playground with bridges and rope elements that still feels fun without being overwhelming.
You’ll find off-street parking, toilets, natural shade from trees plus shade sails over key areas — all the things that make a park visit easy rather than exhausting.
So next time you’re heading to IKEA on the Gold Coast, pack the scooters and swimmers. Mabel Park is the perfect post-meatball pit stop.
