Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

The Sanctuary

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is a lush, 27-hectare outdoor space connecting wildlife and nature with the community. The expansive ground provides an open-air safe haven for humans and animals alike and their conservation efforts are aimed to ensure that the Sanctuary and precious wildlife remain in place for generations to come.

There is so much to see and do: Cuddle a koala, pat a kangaroo or book a hospital tour – whether paid or free, there are so many opportunities to interact with the animals and see the Sanctuary in action up close. The Lost Valley is one of our favourite spaces, where you walk across elevated walkways to see exotic species such as Lemurs, Cotton-top Tamarins, Red Panda, Capybaras and the Binturong, along with free-flying birds and exotic reptiles. Don’t miss the crocodile enclosure too!

If shows are your thing, you will want to check out the Free Flight Bird Show! There you can meet some of Australia’s most beautiful species of birds from the largest bird in flight! The kids will also love the Blinky Bill shows, with differing performances throughout the year and special performances for school holidays and special events.

The train ride around the Sanctuary is both handy for getting around and for entertaining the kids! Easily take your pram aboard and jump on for a ride to get a different perspective of the park.

Extinction Trail

The newest addition to Currumbin Sanctuary, the Extinction Trail is a permanent fixture that will excite all the dinosaur-mad kids! Travel back to a time when dinosaurs and megafauna ruled the earth and explore life on our planet long before the evolution of humans.

Wild Island Playground

Currumbin Sanctuary is not just about the animals – be sure to stop by and check out the incredible playground and splash park! Wild Island offers a range of timed water jets, streams and waterfalls to run through, and an adventure playground.  There are plenty of things for kids to climb on and explore including spider’s web, wobbly ropes bridges, shaded slides and a flying fox. There are also interactive elements where you can learn more about spiders and other creepy crawlies that call the local rainforest home.

Parents haven’t been forgotten either. There are mature shady trees, cool breezes and scattered seating and you will love the new 5 star Parent’s room designed to create a welcoming and relaxing environment for you to recharge your batteries. There are centralised bathrooms, private baby feeding areas, a play area for your busy toddlers, change tables, sink and kitchenette!
