Packed with things to do, places to relax and opportunities to catch up with friends and family, the Broadwater Parklands are popular any day of the week. In terms of facilities, there are heaps of covered picnic tables and BBQs all around the outside of the playground making it perfect for gatherings. There are toilets a short walk from the playground, and plans are in the works for a cafe to open right beside the playground which will only add to how popular this park is!
Budds Beach, Surfers Paradise
Budds Beach is just minutes from Surfers Paradise, and the perfect spot for families with little ones to visit for a play, picnic and swim. Park just metres from the water, the sheltered foreshore is shade covered with established trees, and the gentle waves mean plenty of fun splashing in the shallows. You’ll also find an amenities block with toilets and a shower to rinse off after a swim.
Galleon Park, Currumbin Waters
This has to be one of the best parks on the southern end of the Gold Coast – a learn to ride track, a playground for toddlers and older kids, basket ball court, grassy field, picnic shelter and toilets!! It’s easy to see why Galleon Park is always a popular spot no matter the day of the week. Extra features in this parkland include a picnic shelter and BBQ, a modern toilet block and a basketball court.
Hilltop Park, Ormeau
Hilltop Park in Ormeau is an older park, but still delivers a great time! On a weekend you’re sure to find a birthday party or two happening here, and the wide open spaces, facilities and variety of play equipment really make it ideal.
Split into two sections, you’ll find a shady toddler play area with a car, climbing frame and mini playground with slide and swing in one area. The main playground space is better suited for over 5’s, with a larger playground and slide, large climbing net, balance beams, spinners and a swing set. Toilets, a BBQ, water bubbler and picnic shelter are right beside the playground, with additional shady seating all through the park.
Tugun Park, Tugun
This castle themed playground at Tugun Park, Tugun is capturing the imagination of knights and princesses young and old! This playground is packed with imaginative and role play pieces, including a Double Medieval Tower, a Drawbridge, a Knight and his Horse! There are battlements, banners, arrow slits, arches, shields and bridges, all sure to inspire fun and games. Climbing up the tower might be fun, but coming back down is fun too! There are two large tunnel slides and one open slides, all sure to delight. A swing set also entertains, with a parent and child swing alongside the traditional swings. While there is no shade over this playground, the location itself is very cool and shady, packed with large trees and covered picnic tables. It is not fully fenced, but a fence does run along the carpark side of the playground, while the open side opens to large grassy spaces. This is a great location for a birthday party, with numerous picnic tables and BBQs right by the playground, ample parking and of course, toilets!
Frascott Park, Varsity Lakes
Frascott Park is one of those places that gives you bang for your buck! With not one, but two playgrounds on site, a dog park, open fields and a pathway perfect for biking, there is a lot to do here. The Safari themed playground has two play structures, one for the bigger kids and one for the toddlers and is hugely popular for birthday parties. A huge slide and flying fox are keen favourites, while little ones will love driving the safari jeep and spotting elephants! The second playground has been around for some time and while it is nothing new and fancy, those with smaller kids might prefer this playground. With lots of trees around, it is shadier and a lot quieter, there are plenty of bridges to climb and a slide to go down, a merry go round, swing set and spider net round off the equipment here.
Aquila Park, Pimpama
From the awesome water play area, with moving spouts and water pumps, to the epic slide tower, the spinner and all the climbing and balance equipment – you can easily spend a few hours at this playground without anyone getting bored. Spaced out into four zones (all of which are easily visible from the many seats around the playground), Aquila Park caters to all ages with its variety of equipment and differing levels of difficulty. With plenty of shade and located well away from the road, this is definitely a favourite of parents as well. Added extras at this playground include a small bike path around the outside of the playground, perfect for scooters or learning to ride; and a dry creek bed for exploring. Facilities include a toilet block, BBQ and picnic tables.
Harley Park, Labrador
Harley Park is located on the Broadwater at Labrador, and is a bustling hive of activity any day of the week. With a swimming lagoon, pelicans, picnic facilities and two playgrounds, this is a very popular family destination. The larger playground is located at the main carpark, alongside Charis Seafoods, and being fully fenced it caters more for the younger children. A nautical themed ship playground, all the equipment is easily accessible for little legs and the ground is sand, perfect for any small tumbles. There is a second, climbing-inspired playground with poles, ropes, ladders and a flying fox only about 100m further north, for those who are older.
Charlie Hammel Park, Cabbage Tree Point
Here you’ll find a large grassy field with a shady playground right on the waterfront. It’s the perfect spot to let the kids have a play, enjoy fish and chips from the takeaway shop next door, or a BBQ on the park facilities. With picnic shelters and toilets available, it definitely allows you to spend a bit of time here exploring! Time your party for high tide and the kids will love having a swim at the beach as well as a play on the playground.
Macintosh Island Park, Surfers Paradise
Here you’ll be greeted by big shady trees, cascading streams running through the park, pathways perfect for little ones to ride their bikes on, and many birds including the beautiful peacocks that are popular in their own right. The children’s playground is covered in a large shade sail and has a number of slides and various climbing structures, as well as the ever popular swings. A little bridge over a bubbling brook leads those who are adventurous enough to a cave where the infamous Big Foot can be spotted!! Macintosh Island Park is also home to some great modern facilities, with toilets, BBQs and picnic shelters, as well as plenty or park benches, drinking fountains and pathways.
Hinze Dam, Advancetown
The Hinze Dam picnic area and playground is a hidden gem. Set at the bottom of the dam wall, you’ll find a huge car park, large shade covered playground, plenty of green space, toilets, picnic tables and a BBQ. It’s hardly ever busy here, and this spot would definitely cater well to a larger gathering of people compared to some of the other parks.
The Surrounds, Helensvale
This innovative playground was designed to give children the chance to enjoy a tactile and sensory adventure, with plenty of play elements as well as the opportunity to take safe risks and challenge their bodies and minds. For the bigger kids, a large, double climbing cube-type structure is the highlight of the playground. For the younger children or those less confident with climbing, there is another smaller playground with a couple of slides and stairs, a ride-on jeep and a see-saw. A sand and water play area will keep the kids occupied for hours. Popular for birthday parties, there is a large picnic table shelter with bbqs, tables and bench seats. Unfortunately the playground will rely on natural shade from trees so until they grow, it can be quite hot. Toilet facilities are available at the nearby community centre.
Bim’bimba Park, Pimpama
This park encompasses a large outdoor amphitheatre, toddler play space, playground, teen hangout and basketball court – all connected by a series of entwining paths perfect for bike riding. A lot of the play equipment is centred around climbing however, which makes a lot of the equipment unsuitable for toddlers, so this park is better for the older kids parties. There is a dedicated toddler play space, but this also is focused on climbing and for those not so great on their feet, it may prove too difficult for them. Picnic tables and toilets are available, but there is little natural shade so it can get hot here.
Eagle Tree Park, Coomera Foreshore
This park comfortably caters for all ages, toddlers through to teenagers, and provides a range of experiences for all ability levels. Based around a central ‘birds nest’ structure, the playground includes a standalone toddler play space, small basketball court and swing set. There are heaps of flat pathways for bike and scooter riding, a picnic shelter with BBQ and a toilet block. Given the different levels of the birds nest structure, this playground is perfect for those who love to climb! There are platforms to reach, bridges to cross and huge slides to come down again. Little ones are not forgotten, with a number of small slides across the park, and a set of diggers in the sandpit providing hours of entertainment.
Central Park, Pacific Pines
The playground is separated into two areas – a fenced off playground for toddlers, and an open space spread across a few areas with different types of play equipment for older kids. Alongside the main entrance to the playground, you’ll find a large climbing net, a train with slides, and a boat to climb. A little further in and you’ll find your traditional playground structure with slides and some imaginative play. Families with little ones will be pleased to know that there is a securely gated toddler play area alongside the lake, filled with lots of things to perfectly cater for inquisitive minds. Play on the toddler slide, explore the cubby house, touch the sensory wall or bounce around on the diggers! There is lots of shade here and plenty of space for them to run around. This playground is very popular for birthday parties, with great facilities including electric barbeques, covered seating areas, drinking fountains and toilets. Parking is super easy all along the main street too.
The BackyardThe Backyard, Coomera
The highlight of The Backyard, particularly on hot Gold Coast summer days, is the water play area! Designed for kids of all ages, but definitely catering more towards under 7’s, kids can splash in ankle to knee deep water, pump the water pumps, dodge squirting frogs, spin water wheels and explore the winding streams of water. Perfectly designed to protect the kiddies, it features big shade sails and grassy banks, and has deck chairs for the adults. Change rooms are right beside the water area, and the final piece that makes this spot a real favourite for families, particularly for birthday parties, is the inclusion of barbeque facilities and tables!
Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens, Benowa
The children’s playground at the Botanic Gardens is a perfect birthday party destination. With ample space to set up shade marquees, toilets nearby and the playground, you’ll generally find a party or two here every weekend. While the playground isn’t fenced, it is situated far enough away from the road and in the middle of a big field that kids have room to run and play without needing to watch for cars.
